Featured Farm - Rohrer Dairy

Jun 16, 2015 HARRISBURG, Pa. — White Horse Construction, along with numerous other industry supporters, will hold an open house 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, at Rohrer Dairy Farms LLC., 126 Charlestown Road, Washington Boro, Pa.

“I’ve heard it said, and this applies to any business, that you have to do 1,000 things right every day to be successful,” said Chris Stoltzfus, president of White Horse Construction. “The Rohrer family consistently analyze their procedures and systems,” he said. “I am honored and count it as a privilege to have the opportunity to work with such a great progressive dairy and family.” Rohrer Dairy Farms is a partnership and family affair between Bob, Mike and Tony Rohrer. Bob’s wife, Robin, works part time as the bookkeeper for the farm, while Mike and his wife, Lori, and their two grown children, Andrea and Mitch, work full time on the farm. In addition to family, the farm employs 13 other employees.

The Rohrers milk 1,275 cows, raise 1,275 replacement heifers and have 900 tillable acres of farmland. Many barns have been built throughout a two-year period, allowing the family farm to comply with EPA and DEP regulations in a cost-effective manner.

The facilities that will be featured in the free open house are a 48-stall calf hutch barn, a 138-head transition barn for animals from 4 to 7 months old, a 450-head freestall barn with a slotted floor and pit underneath, and a new equipment shed that was built on the same footprint of an old tobacco shed. Both the tobacco shed and an old freestall barn were torn down to make room for the improvements.
